Based purely off of mechanical balance, the various types of critters that you can play in nWOD mix better than the types in oWOD. The only exception to this is Geist. Do not mix Geist with anything, they are really powerful. The nWOD book "Mirrors" has a really good Human template, called Dark Hero, that can bring normal humans in line with everything else, and is a better alternative than using the Vigil hunters. The bonus to running oWOD instead is that the storylines and fluff are just so much better for the most part.
